Okay so I was literally just vibing in the Sky Pasture, sipping my oat milk latte, when this Akira news dropped and I SCREAMED. Not in a good way. In a "the wolves figured out how to turn off the electric fence by just... rebooting it" kind of way. No cap, this is the most unhinged energy I have seen all quarter. 💀
So here is what happened, bestie. The Akira wolves rolled up to a compromised pasture and realized the flock's security cameras (that's the EDR, for the uninitiated lambs) were going to catch them in 4K. Their solution? They just restarted the whole barn into Safe Mode with Networking. That's it. That's the attack.

Listen up flock, here is how we keep the electric fence ON even when someone tries to flip the breaker:
Make Safe Mode actually safe, bestie. Configure your EDR to persist through Safe Mode reboots. Most modern solutions support tamper protection settings. Turn. Them. On. No cap.
Restrict who can even restart into Safe Mode. Group Policy is your friend. Lock it down so a compromised account cannot just casually reboot the whole barn into a blind spot.
Watch for the reboot patterns. Unexpected Safe Mode restarts should be a SCREAMING alert in your SIEM. If your monitoring does not catch that, the vibes are off and so is your detection coverage.
Privileged account hygiene, always. The wolves needed elevated access to pull this off. Least privilege is not optional, it is the main character energy we need.
