Okay so I literally spilled my matcha reading this and I am still shaking. Apple, our beloved shepherd of the Sky Pasture ecosystem, had a HOLE IN THE FENCE so embarrassing that deleted Signal notifications were just... sitting there. Chilling. Waving at the FBI. Living their best little undead data life. 💀

No cap, this is the most cringe vulnerability I have seen this entire quarter.

Here is what happened, bestie. iOS had a flaw in its Notification Services where messages the lambs THOUGHT they deleted were actually just... not deleted. Like at all. The notifications were marked for removal but kept hanging around like that one wolf at the party who definitely was not invited. 🐺

The FBI reportedly used this hole in the fence to recover Signal messages from a device they had physical access to. SIGNAL. The app the flock uses specifically because they do NOT want anyone reading their little secrets. The irony is sending me. 😭

The vibes here are absolutely rancid, I cannot stress this enough.

Apple dropped an out-of-band patch, which means they did not even wait for their normal update cycle. They said "we are shearing RIGHT NOW, no notes, no schedule" and I respect the urgency honestly. The ointment is out. The dipping vat is ready. Get your devices in it. 🛁

The cringe factor on this one is a solid 11 out of 10. You install a privacy-first app, you delete your messages like a responsible lamb, and then a hole in the fence just keeps your secrets in a little ghost folder forever? That is not giving secure. That is giving haunted. 👻

Shoutout to the shepherds in C-suite who probably still have not updated their iPhones because they are "too busy." Bestie your deleted texts are a museum exhibit right now. A MUSEUM. #NoShame #ActuallyLotsOfShame

🌿 Remediation Vibes (aka Please Do This Immediately)

  • Update your iPhone and iPad RIGHT NOW. Go to Settings, General, Software Update. Do it. I will wait. 🐑
  • Check that your Signal notifications are actually cleared after patching, just for the slay of it.
  • Enable auto-updates so you are not the last lamb in the flock to get the ointment.
  • If you are a shepherd managing a flock of devices, push this update via MDM today. Not tomorrow. TODAY. The Sky Pasture waits for no one.
