One Flock Saw The Wolf Coming. The Other Was Already Wool. 🐺✨
OKAY. OKAY. I need everyone to put down their oat lattes and BREATHE with me for a second because this news just absolutely sent me to the floor and I am NOT recovering quickly. 😭
CISA, the absolute girlies of government cybersecurity, ran red team assessments on TWO critical infrastructure orgs at the same time, same moves, same wolf energy. And one of them? Detected. Literally. Nothing. No cap. The wolf walked in, raided the whole pasture, achieved full domain-level control, and the flock was just out there munching grass like it was a Tuesday. 🐑💀
The CRINGE of it all is sending me.
Like, both flocks got fully cooked. Domain-level compromise, which for the uninitiated means the wolves were not just inside the fence, they WERE the fence. They had the keys, the crook, the shepherd's hat, everything. But at least one org had the vibes to notice something was off!
The other one? Bestie, the red team probably sent a calendar invite titled "We Own You Now :)" and nobody flagged it.
This is giving "The Shepherds are on a golf retreat and nobody told the Electric Fence to stay on." Which, honestly, tracks. So predictable. So very cringe. 😬
And can we talk about the fact that this is CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE?? Power grids! Water! Things that keep us alive and able to post!! The Sky Pasture connections for these orgs are probably vast and beautiful and completely unmonitored and I am spiraling. #SkyPastureAnxiety
The real villain here is the gap between "we have security tools" and "our security tools are actually doing anything." Two identical attacks. Two completely different outcomes. The difference is not budget, bestie. It is ATTENTION. It is someone actually watching the logs. Revolutionary concept, I know. 🙄
💅 Remediation Vibes (Actually Do These)
Slay these steps, no cap:
- Run your own red team exercises. If CISA has to tell you the wolf got in, that is a very embarrassing way to find out.
- Detection is not decoration. Having an Electric Fence that logs everything into a void is not security, it is aesthetic.
- Check your Sky Pasture configurations. Misconfigured cloud access is basically leaving the gate open with a welcome sign.
- Apply your ointment regularly. Unpatched systems are holes in the fence and wolves have Google Maps.
- Make the Shepherds actually look at the dashboards. I know it is hard. I know they are busy. Do it anyway.
The flock that detected the attack gets a gold star sticker and my entire heart. The other one needs a serious vibe check and maybe a new IT team. 🌟
Stay spicy, stay patched, and for the love of grass, CHECK YOUR ALERTS.
